I have a BA in Sociology from California State University - Dominguez Hills. It is located near Compton CA and is predominantly minority ethnic background. Many courses, especially for Sociology but also other areas, included cultural and social emphasis. I currently am a substitute teacher in Orange County and a coach in Long Beach, and I deal with ethnic, cultural and social issues. A issue that get under my skin is that many of the students and athletes have this stigma about getting good grades and that it is cool to have poor grades and that a student is a geek if they get A's. This drives me crazy. I have 2 very young children and I hope that this is not something they deal have to deal with.
