Levels of Technology Implementation
From WikEd
This scale was developed in 1994 by Dr. Christopher Moersch as a way to measure technology integration. There are six levels in the scale:
Level 0 Non-Use
Level 1 Awareness
Level 2 Exploration
Level 3 Infusion
Level 4a Integration (Mechanical)
Level 4b Integration (Routine)
Level 5 Expansion
Level 6 Refinement
In the LoTi scale, which is beginning to be used by many schools as a way to evaluate technology use, "integration" only occurs when students are using technology to solve authentic problems. According to the LoTi website, at the Integration level, "Technology (e.g., multimedia, telecommunications, databases, spreadsheets, word processing) is perceived as a tool to identify and solve authentic problems as perceived by the students relating to an overall theme/concept. Emphasis is placed on student action and on issues resolution that require higher levels of student cognitive processing and in-depth examination of the content." ([1])
The LoTi website has descriptions of each level along with ideas for moving from one level to the next. You can learn more about each of the levels by using this link. You can visit the homepage by using this link. Don't worry about the login: just choose from the links on the left.
LoTi also includes a survey that helps teachers identify their "LoTi" level. The entire survey has 50 questions and takes about a half hour to complete. There is a charge for the use of the survey. However, users can take a trial run with 10 questions that give an idea of how it works. Try the Sample
