What do you think are some benefits of Serious Games??
I've personally experienced the educational benefits of Serious Games when I've played a few on my own... I know this may sound silly, but even the game Cake Mania 2 has a lot to offer in regards to strategic thinking and planning. Not only was it fun and highly addictive (both benefits, especially if learning is involved), but I really had to treat this as a real business that I was trying to run and keep in business... thus even though I was making cakes, I had to take into consideration time management, critical thinking about what to make/do next, how or whether to spend the bakery's money on upgrades (don't buy the cake toppers!!) or to save it, etc... Now imagine trying to teach these types of critical thinking skills and business skills to kids in a classroom using a textbook... boring boring boring... then imagine putting them on the computer and having them play these games for a day or two, and then have them write up what they've learned and how these principles apply to what's in their textbook! Now that's fun! Another serious game that is fun and focuses on business skills if you're not into baking cakes is RollerCoaster Tycoon - Kona
